Who will win Vasaloppet and Tjejvasan 2024?

The Ski Classics season has reached its "midpoint." The eighth race, Jizerská50 in the Czech Republic, scheduled for Sunday, February 11, has been cancelled. This means that Ski Classics' next two races will take place in Grönklitt, followed by the Ski Classics Challenger race Tjejvasan on February 24. On March 3, it's time for the highlight of the year, the 100th Vasaloppet. All these races will be broadcast live on Sveriges Television. But who will emerge victorious? Here is a brief overview of the current situation.

Runar Skaug Mathisen, Lager 157 Ski Team, and Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, won the 70-kilometre Italian long-distance race Marcialonga, which was the seventh Ski Classics race of the season.

The current holders of the yellow leader vests – ”Champion” – in Ski Classics are Kasper Stadaas, Team Ragde Charge, and Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden. Kasper Stadaas has been consistently impressive with two victories, two second places, and two fifth places this year. The best Swede is Axel Jutterström, Team Eksjöhus, in third place. He has also achieved top placements this winter, with a best finish of second and a worst of eighth. The reigning Vasaloppet champion, Emil Persson, Lager 157 Ski Team, who was ill at the start of the season, secured a second place in Marcialonga, indicating his return to form. He is currently sixth overall.

Emilie Fleten, who won Vasaloppet 2023, leads the women’s overall cup ahead of Kati Roivas, Team Eksjöhus, and Ida Dahl, Team Engcon. Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, and Amund Hoel, Team Engcon, lead the sprint cup (the green vest). Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, and Thomas Bing, eD system Silvini Team, lead the ”Climb” cup (the black and red vest). The current leaders in the ”Youth” cup, up to 26 years (the pink vest), are Karolina Hedenström, Lager 157 Ski Team, and Axel Jutterström, Team Eksjöhus. Team Eksjöhus also leads the team competition, Pro Team.

The 36th Tjejvasan
The women in Ski Classics have an extra race to compete in February: Tjejvasan, 30 km, is a Challenger race within the Ski Classics family and it can provide an additional 50 points (and 50,000 SEK) for the winner. Ida Dahl from IFK Mora SK/Team Engcon emerged victorious in Tjejvasan 2023, winning by a photo finish ahead of Magni Smedås, Team Eksjöhus. Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, finished third. Who will win in 2024?

The 100th Vasaloppet
The winner of Vasaloppet receives 300 points in Ski Classics and, this year, 100,000 SEK, the largest prize ever. After ten consecutive Norwegian men’s victories in Vasaloppet, a Swedish victory finally occurred in the 99th race when Emil Persson, Lager 157 Ski Team, won the sprint ahead of two Norwegians from Team Ragde Charge, Andreas Nygaard and Kasper Stadaas. In the women’s category in 2023, there was a Norwegian victory as Emilie Fleten, Team Ramudden, secured her first Ski Classics win. Silje Øyre Slind, Team Aker Daehlie, finished second, and Ida Dahl, Team Engcon, finished third. But who will win the historic 100th Vasaloppet?
