Counties and nations – statistics ahead of Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2024

At 09:00 on Friday, February 23, the first participants will set off on the trail in Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2024. The first race is Vasaloppet 30, which is 30 km long, and it's followed by 12 other races with distances ranging from 9 to 90 kilometres before the 100th Vasaloppet in history takes place on "Vasaloppet Sunday," March 3. Currently, over 57,800 participants are registered – from 67 different nations.

57,800 skiers – from all 21 counties of Sweden and from 66 other nations across Europe, Asia, Africa, Oceania, North America, and South America – have registered for one of the 14 races in Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2024. These statistics are from Wednesday, February 21, 2024 and are thus current but not final.

The registered participants are aged 7 to 89 years. 61.2 percent are men and 38.8 percent are women. The average age of the participants is 42.2 years. (The average age in Sweden is, according to the latest available information from Statistics Sweden, 41.72 years.)

Two races are completely full: Vasaloppet and Öppet Spår Sunday. Registration is still open to all other races.

Masses of experience: 390 of the registered participants for the 90-kilometre races are what are known as Vasaloppet veterans, meaning they have participated in Vasaloppet and/or Öppet Spår/Nattvasan 90 for at least 30 years. Again this year, the veterans will wear a special orange number bib.

222 registered participants are planning to complete Vasaloppstrippeln this year, which includes skiing a race now during the Winter Week, then a mountain bike race and a running race of the same distance in Vasaloppet's Summer Week in August. Vasaloppstrippeln offers three different distances to choose from: 30, 45, and 90 km.
