Welcome to Cykelvasan, August 11–12, 2023

Vasaloppet started the Cykelvasan mountain bike race in 2009 and it quickly grew into the largest in the Nordics. Now it's your turn to participate in the Vasaloppet of Swedish cycling. This summer we're offering five different races to choose from, here in the beautiful Vasaloppet Arena in Dalarna. Choose the distance that suits you best: 32, 45 or 94 km. (Come and meet us at Scandinavia's largest bicycle fair. On March 25-26, the Copenhagen Bike Show will be held in the heart of Copenhagen. You will find us in booth number 61.)

Cykelvasan is Vasaloppet on wheels. The cycling weekend of August 11–12 also kicks off Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2023. Below is a quick guide to Cykelvasan 2023.

Friday, August 11: UNGDOMSCYKELVASAN (32 km)
Young cyclists' own mountain bike race in classic Vasaloppet terrain.
The youth competition for everyone between ages 11 and 16. The race starts in Oxberg, then runs by the Vasaloppet checkpoints in Oxberg, Hökberg and Eldris down to the finish in Mora. The race is 32 km, running on 28.9 km of forest road or gravel, and 3.1 km of asphalt. Although the track is not too technically advanced, the pace will be high when time comes to settle the score for wreath and glory.

Friday, August 11: CYKELVASAN 30 (32 km)
The bike race for the whole family.
Everyone can bike Cykelvasan! Hang your picnic basket on your handlebars and take the opportunity to cycle Cykelvasan this summer. Cykelvasan 30 is an exercise race where the whole family can bike together. The course starts in Oxberg and runs through the classic Vasaloppet terrain past the checkpoints in Oxberg, Hökberg and Eldris down to the finish in Mora. The race runs on 28.9 km of forest road/gravel and 3.1 km of asphalt, and it is suitable for all bikes. See you at the start!

Friday, August 11: CYKELVASAN 45 (45 km)
Mountain bike for those who like challenges.
Try some real MTB! Expect a struggle with lots of sweat and sore legs. Cykelvasan 45 is the race for those who like real challenges. The race is 45 km, starting in Oxberg and running on 43.3 km of forest and gravel roads and 1.7 km of asphalt before you reach the finish line in Mora. The first 15 km of the course are technically advanced, probably comprising Cykelvasan's most demanding stretch with hilly terrain around the beautiful Oxberg lake, running via old summer farms and mixed deciduous and coniferous forest before rejoining the Vasaloppet Arena. Enjoy the Vasaloppet atmosphere as you pass the checkpoints in Oxberg, Hökberg and Eldris before rolling under the classic finish line portal in Mora.

Friday, August 11: CYKELVASAN ÖPPET SPÅR (94 km)
A wonderful challenge between Sälen and Mora.
Participate in Cykelvasan, without the competition! Do you want to bike the entire Cykelvasan but with more space in the track? Cykelvasan Öppet Spår is the whole Cykelvasan 90 but without the heavy competitive element. The race takes you on a historic journey in forefathers' tracks along the traditional Vasaloppet route. The race starts in Sälen and runs on 87.1 km of forest road/gravel and 6.9 km of asphalt, going past all the well-known Vasaloppet checkpoints on the way to the finish line in Mora. The race is a real challenge, so prepare well, stop at the checkpoints and remember that you are only competing against yourself.

Saturday, August 12: CYKELVASAN 90 (94 km)
The biggest mountain bike race in the Nordics.
The start is at the Vasaloppet start in Sälen and the race passes all the well-known Vasaloppet checkpoints. 94 km on forest roads and wooden decking over marshlands, through light pine forests, past summer farms and meadows down to the finish line portal in Mora. The race is a real challenge, running on 87.1 km of forest or gravel roads, and 6.9 km of asphalt. The race has competition classes (women and men) and an exercise class. A Cykelvasan victory is a rare achievement that's highly valued by elite cyclists. But remember that every finish counts, and every finish is a victory! Welcome to the start.

What do Cykelvasan participants have to say?
After its events, Vasaloppet always conducts a participant survey together with the company Upplevelseinstitutet, to find out what participants thought of the event. After Cykelvasan 2022, cyclists gave a rating of 4.8 (out of 5.0) for the overall overall impression of the event which, according to Upplevelseinstitutet's comparisons, is an extremely high and impressive rating in this context.

Here is what some happy cyclists said in the participant survey after Cykelvasan 2022.
"My first bike race, but a very smooth experience – the event worked really well – and from what I gathered from the people I biked with, they like Vasaloppet events best because they're so skilfully planned."

“It was beyond my expectations! I usually don't really like cycling, but the course was nice, the atmosphere good and I got excited to do it again!"

“A well-organized organization! A cycling race that most people can get through. Full of tradition. Nice events in the days leading up to the competition.”

"A good competition where you can really compete against yourself and don't have to worry about everyone else. A long distance but with good service and nice cycling all the way.”

"Love Vasaloppet, it's a perfect competition for exercisers. Getting a good time isn't what's important; the whole race with all the participants and checkpoints is so much fun!”

"The whole Cykelvasan, including the race and everything around it, is so fantastic. Everyone is good and happy and everything works great.”

“Fantastic events through and through. Well organized and it's always pleasant to participate in a Vasaloppet arrangement. My first bike race but not my last.”

"Cykelvasan is an amazing nature experience."

"With a big smile on my face, I cycled my first bike race, my first competition ever. No one is happier than me.”

“Well-organized race. As a recreational exerciser, I felt welcome. And, me personally, I got a real kick out of completing Cykelvasan.”

"A wonderful experience with a nice mix of young and old, and it was perfectly fine to cycle on a 'regular' bike those 30 km to Mora."

"If you are a cyclist, you have to bike Cykelvasan at some point. A really fun gravel road rally where everything is well organized. I will be back."
