Hemmavasan on skis will complement Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2023

The home edition of Vasaloppet, Hemmavasan skidor (Hemmavasan on skis) 2023, is launching as a complement to Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2023. While the regular races are held on location in Sälen and Mora, from Friday February 24 to Sunday March 5, participants can also ski a race at any location around the world – in the digital Vasaloppet Arena.

During the pandemic, events like Hemmavasan and Vasaåket replaced the regular races from Vasaloppet's Summer Week and Winter Week. The idea of digital races became popular and it made Vasaloppet accessible to even more people, such as families with children and people in other countries, who could now also participate in Vasaloppet at home.
"The digital versions have been in high demand even since the restrictions were lifted. We know that many people like the freedom of being able to choose and the simplicity of picking where, when and with whom you complete your race. So it feels great to be able to offer those who cannot participate on location an opportunity to finish via Hemmavasan on skis," says Camilla Sandy Swarén, press manager at Vasaloppet.

Hemmavasan skidor 2023 is open to all and you can complete your race at any time between Friday, February 24 and Sunday, March 5; the same dates as the Vasaloppet Winter Week takes place in Sälen and Mora. The distances are 10, 30, 45 or 90 kilometres and the idea is that participants download the Vasaloppet app and complete their race wherever they are in the world. Through the app, participants travel from the start in Sälen or Oxberg, through all the classic checkpoints, down to the finish portal in Mora in the digital Vasaloppet Arena, while at the same time skiing in their ski track at home. (”Hemma” is Swedish for ”at home”.)
"Vasaloppet's goal is to get more people moving and we hope to make that happen by making even more accessible events. Having a clear training goal, such as a start place in a race, can be a deciding factor in getting you going, while also providing something to look forward to," says Camilla Sandy Swarén.

Of course, it's also possible to complete one race on location during Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2023 and to complete another, or several, in Hemmavasan skidor at a location of your choice. The times and results in Hemmavasan skidor are registered in the Vasaloppet database, just like the other races, and they are included in Vasaloppstrippeln 2023 (30, 45 or 90 km).

During Vasaloppet's Summer Week 2023 it will also be possible to participate in Hemmavasan on bike as well as Hemmavasan ultra and Hemmavasan trail. These races will launch later this spring.
