Vasaloppet: We have 90 kilometres of ski tracks ready!

Despite a mild and almost snow-free start to the winter, Vasaloppet's snow production has gone according to plan and before Christmas artificial snow was laid out in the tracks closest to Mora. After a period of cold weather and a good amount of natural snow it is now possible to ski the entire distance from Sälen to Mora.

“It feels good to be able to offer skiing along the whole Vasaloppet course. The situation today is much better than a year ago, mostly because the cold has frozen the ground. We will now keep working according to our snow plan to safeguard optimal conditions for Vasaloppet's Winter Week,” says Vasaloppet's Arena Manager Anders Holmberg.

Today artificial snow is laid out as a foundation between Läde and Mora, a distance of 14.5 kilometres. The rest of the Vasaloppet course consists of packed natural snow. There are still 25,000 cubic metres of artificial snow at our snow factory in Oxberg, which is enough for a foundation for the entire Läde-Oxberg stretch.

Track machines have been used to lay tracks from the Vasaloppet start in Berga by to Mångsbodarna and from Vasslan to Mora. The rest of the course has been laid using snowcats and sleds. From the start to Vasslan there are two tracks; after that there are at least two tracks all the way to the finish.

Last Saturday saw IFK Mora's competition Intersportloppet 44 kilometres, with about 800 participants, over HalvVasan's course, with start in Oxberg and, via Vasslan, to a finish at Prästholmen in Mora.

The whole 90 kilometre track will be groomed before every weekend throughout the winter, as long as there is enough snow.

FACTS/ Places still available for the Vasaloppet Winter Week 2015:
At present there are about 66,200 participants registered for the eight races of Vasaloppet's Winter Week, but there are still start places available in KortVasan (30 km) and HalvVasan (45 km), as well as our UngdomsVasan youth races.
