Vasaloppet reaches two million finishes in 2026
Vasaloppet is approaching another historic milestone. The two-millionth finish in Mora is expected to be recorded in 2026 – and it could happen as early as this Sunday during the 102nd Vasaloppet.
It took 90 years to reach the first millionth finish, a mark that was passed on February 27, 2012. Growth has accelerated significantly since then. In just 14 years, another million participants have crossed the finish line in one of Vasaloppet’s winter or summer events.
“It’s a symbolic moment that reflects both the strength of tradition and the growing breadth of Vasaloppet’s events. We really look forward to welcoming the two-millionth finisher across the line with full celebration, whenever it happens,” says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet.
Since the start in 1922, 1,948,695 finishes have been recorded in Mora from winter and summer combined. The nine races completed so far during the Winter Week, including Barnens Vasalopp in Sälen, brings the overall total of finishes up to 1,975,732.
“Now it depends on how many more finishes we can count in the remaining races, but given the conditions in the arena and the number of registered participants, it looks likely that finish number two million will take place on the Sunday evening of Vasaloppet. Something we will, of course, celebrate,” says Johan Eriksson.
The one-millionth finisher in 2012 was awarded free entry to all Vasaloppet races – for life. The same prize will be awarded to the two-millionth finisher.
“Naturally, we want to celebrate with what we do best: exercise and physical activity. We have kept Sweden moving for more than 100 years, and we intend to continue. Reaching two million finishes is not just a number – it’s the story of everyone who has fought their way along the course, of traditions passed on, and of a popular movement that continues to grow. We look forward to welcoming the next million participants across the finish line, continuing to inspire Sweden to stay active, generation after generation,” says Johan Eriksson.
