Vasaloppet is launching a new race – CykelVasan Öppet Spår
The enormous interest to participate in CykelVasan led Vasaloppet’s management to make an addition in 2015, and just like in the winter, it will offer an Öppet Spår race between Sälen and Mora. This indicates that, for the first time, Vasaloppet’s events for 2015 will potentially reach 100 000 registered participants.
The entry registration limit for CykelVasan 90, which has both a competing and an exercising event, is 12 000 participants, and the new race “CykelVasan Öppet Spår” will increase the participation with 6 000 racers.
- We are so proud and excited to be able to introduce the brand new CykelVasan Öppet Spår. A race purely intended for exercising, with less crowding and a slower pace, causing the racers to compete only against themselves. By offering two races over 90 km we are hoping to meet the incredible demand and offer a better opportunity for more people to participate, claims Johan Eriksson, Acting sports managerat Vasaloppet.
Entry registration for Vasaloppet’s summer week 2015 opens Monday September 29th 2014, with new registration procedures in place. More information regarding this along with summer week’s race dates will be presented during the month of September 2014.
Due to the newly launched bike race, and the enormous interest to participate in all the races, Vasaloppet’s events during 2015 might approach or surpass 100 000 registered participants. To date, already 60 000 participants are registered for Vasaloppet’s winter week 2015. Below we present all the numbers for Vasaloppet 2014.

Footnote: For Vasaloppet on skis it took 57 years before the participation demands were large enough to offer an Öppet Spår. (The first Vasaloppet ran 1922, first Öppet Spår ran 1979). For CykelVasan the participation demands were significantly faster. (First CykelVasan ran 2009, first CykelVasan Öppet Spår will run in 2015.)
