Vasaloppet adds two new races to Ski Classics Pro Tour 2027

This winter, Tjejvasan will become part of the Ski Classics Pro Tour, and a brand-new elite race for men will be launched: Vasaloppet Pro Race 30, held on the same course as Tjejvasan.

When the international long-distance cup Ski Classics today unveiled its programme for the 2026/2027 season, it was confirmed that Vasaloppet will host three Ski Classics events. In addition to the 103rd Vasaloppet on Sunday, March 7, the programme will now also include Tjejvasan on Saturday, February 27, and the new men's race, Vasaloppet Pro Race 30, on Sunday, February 28.

“We look forward to hosting two additional Ski Classics events in the Vasaloppet Arena and showcasing our races on the international stage. The classic Tjejvasan will be a strong addition to the programme, and the new 30-kilometre race for elite male skiers will be an exciting innovation. Together, we will continue to strengthen cross-country skiing both nationally and globally,” says Johan Eriksson, CEO of Vasaloppet.

For some time, Ski Classics has worked to create a more sustainable tour, including reducing the amount of travel required for athletes. A natural solution is that more races can be held at the same venue, allowing athletes to compete more while travelling less.

Compared to other Ski Classics events, both Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet Pro Race 30 are shorter and therefore have higher speeds. Their inclusion as regular fixtures on the programme is also expected to attract an even stronger group of elite skiers.

“The character of the races will develop and both TV viewers and spectators can expect action from start to finish. We look forward to continuing to develop the tour together with Vasaloppet and our athletes,” says David Nilsson, CEO of Ski Classics.

The new men's race, Vasaloppet Pro Race 30, will take place on the same day as Öppet Spår Sunday and Ungdomsvasan; Sunday, February 28, 2027. The start time for Vasaloppet Pro Race 30 is 08:30 so the elite men are expected to reach the Mora finish line around two hours before the fastest skiers in Öppet Spår Sunday.

“We have more than a hundred years of experience in organizing ski races and are confident that all participants on Sunday – young skiers, recreational participants and elite athletes alike – will have the best possible conditions to reach the finish in Mora. Adding new Ski Classics events to the programme brings extra energy and a new dimension to the fantastic ski festival that is the Vasaloppet Winter Week,” says Johan Eriksson.

Both Tjejvasan and Vasaloppet 2027 will be broadcast live on SVT, as in previous years.

    • Vasaloppet recaps the Winter Week 2026 and looks ahead with confidence

Vasaloppet’s Winter Week 2026 offered fantastic conditions with plenty of snow and temperatures below freezing. After a winter with good training conditions and snow across the country, registration numbers were at their highest since 2019. As many as 96 percent, more than usual, completed their races – up until Vasaloppet itself, which ran on Sunday, March 1.
