Three months left until Vasaloppet's Summer Week – premiere for the new finish area and two new running races
The wait is over! It's been three years but this August it's finally time to welcome cyclists and runners back to the Vasaloppet Arena and Vasaloppet's Summer Week. Now there are only three months until the first Summer Week participants start in Sälen and finish their races under the new finish line portal in Mora. We may expect a proper party atmosphere with live bands, food trucks, trade fair and "after bike" and "after run" in Tingshusparken in Mora. Celebrations of Vasaloppet's 100th year continue!
The premiere of Vasaloppet's new finish line area was planned for the Winter Week of 2021 but, as is well known, it had to be postponed due to the pandemic. Last winter, it was finally time for all skiers to glide in under the new finish portal on level with the belfry, about 100 metres before the old finish line. The new finish area received overall high ratings in the participant survey after Vasaloppet's Winter Week 2022.
"The purpose of moving the finish has been to strengthen the experience for both participants and spectators and I feel that we have succeeded. Many of the winter participants highlighted just how nice it was to meet their relatives directly at the finish, and being able to stop and enjoy the atmosphere there," says Mats Rylander, project manager at Vasaloppet.
And there will be more new additions during the Summer Week as the two new running races, Trailvasan 10 and Trailvasan 30, can finally be held in the Vasaloppet Arena. Trailvasan 10 is an exercise race held in the evening on Friday, August 19, starting and finishing in central Mora. Trailvasan 30 starts at 11:00 in Oxberg on Saturday, August 20, and winners will be crowned in both the women's and men's class.

At present, over 17,000 people have registered for the Summer Week races and in August it will be the first time that runners and cyclists can complete their races under the new finish line portal. Immediately after the finish, participants receive their medal and, about 100 metres further on, food and drink is served at the old finish portal. Here you'll also find Vasaloppet's collector's club's exhibition about Vasaloppet history in Mora-Nisse's house.
Preparations for the Summer Week are underway in Sälen, for example for the spectacular Cykelvasasprinten which will be held in Lindvallen on Friday, August 12, featuring mountain bike elites competing in a sprint race that tends to draw a big crowd. The traditional trade fair before Cykelvasan is also back with exhibitors, activities and after bike, also in Lindvallen.
"It will be so fun to welcome both participants and spectators back to the Vasaloppet Arena this summer. Finally, they can experience the new finish area and, once again, feel the proper atmosphere that comes with participating on location. We expect an extra festive vibe as we continue our 100th anniversary celebrations and we hope for a large audience whose cheers will carry the participants cycling and running along in the track," says Mats Rylander.
